Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers and protects a damaged or weakened tooth. Crowns restore the tooth’s strength, shape, function, and appearance, helping you maintain a healthy and confident smile.

When Are Crowns Needed?

A crown may be recommended if you have:

● A tooth that is severely decayed or broken

● A cracked or worn-down tooth

● Had a root canal treatment

● A large filling that needs extra support

● Cosmetic concerns to improve the appearance of a tooth

The Procedure

1. Examination & Preparation: The dentist evaluates the tooth and may take X-rays. The tooth is shaped to fit the crown.

2. Impression: A mold of your tooth is taken to create a custom-fit crown. We make use of CAD/CAM technology (computer assisted design and computer assisted milling) to design and manufacture our crowns. This makes crowns more affordable (crowns are made in-house and not sent to a laboratory) and it also reduces the turnaround time.

3. Temporary Crown: A temporary crown may be placed while the permanent one is made.

4. Crown Placement: The permanent crown is fitted, adjusted, and bonded securely to the tooth.

Types of Crowns

● Porcelain/Ceramic: Natural-looking and ideal for front teeth.

● Metal: Durable and long-lasting, often used for back teeth.

● Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal: Combines strength and aesthetics.

● Zirconia: Strong, durable, and highly aesthetic for any tooth.

Care for Your Crown

Crowns require the same care as natural teeth: regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups. With proper care, crowns can last many years.
